Excursion to bicycle country Holland
It is one of the most beautiful river landscapes I know: the Maas river. And it is particularly nice when you are driving with someone who is well-versed. How should I know where to find the best ice cream?
To go there by car? Unnecessary!
Venlo is easily accessible by train from Düsseldorf. Without changing, and with luck there is still some space for your bike in the respective parts of the wagons.
Recreation area Maas
From the Venlo train station, we drove northwards on the right side of the Maas.
After a little refreshment, delicious ice cream and a place in the sun, we crossed the Maas on another ferry.
A further extended break at a lovely restaurant led to a slight loss of time. We increased our pace and drove fairly quickly through the fantastic scenery back to Venlo.
Quite honestly, the fast pace is not doing justice to this beautiful area. Here you should bring time.
As a cyclist I feel really safe here. In the inner city there are separate cycle paths which are not only modestly indicated, but clearly recognizable. Some of which are even built to be separated from the motorists. In the countryside there are lots of little paths built for cycling alone. This is certainly not true, but at least at the weekend it seems to be so. And you never walk alone 🙂
Helmet or no Helmet
It is a clear distinguishing feature. Every cyclist wearing a helmet comes from Germany. In Holland nobody seems to wear a helmet. My helmet has brought on some smiles, but so what: I am from Germany!
